The department of community health nursing has adequate community facilities along with learning resources and advanced equipments to improve the performance of the students and render the quality services to the public. The following facilities are available.

Urban health centre in Ariyankuppam with basic facihty to treat minor ailments has adequate and specialized equipments to conduct special clinic like Derm, OG, ENT, regular dental and general clinic.

Rural health center in Seliamedu is a basic health facility to treat minor ailments. It has regular dental and general OPD along with facilities to conduct special clinics like dermatology, 0G, Pediatrics and ENT.

Details of Grievance Handling

Whenever the students have grievances with regard to understanding any academic units they faculty revises and clarifies their doubts. Extra classes are conducted & special attention is provided by conducting quiz, topic-wise tests, unit tests, revision tests & model exams.


Students with personal problems can approach the class co-ordinator who arranges for the counseling session. The student’s problem is identified and then the student is guided to take appropriate decision along with solution to the student’s problem. Faculty also identifies the slow learners & undisciplined students, adequate counseling is provided to modify their behavior,

Parent teacher interaction

Parent teacher interaction session is conducted to identify students & parents problems and suggestions welcomed from parents to provide necessary solutions to the problems.

Motivational Programme

To boost the morale and confidence levels of the students, they are motivated by means of appreciations and awards. The slow learners are also motivated to score more marks through necessary support and help.

Student teacher ratio

For UG the ratio of teacher to students is 1:10 and PG is 1:5. Academic plans are made for class teaching, lecture, demonstration, seminar, symposium, panel discussion, clinical presentation, assignments, workshop, conference, health education, etc., and extracurricular activities.

Clinical & practical sessions

During community posting students are supervised for various procedures like Hag technique, Temperature checking, dressing and wine testing. Our students demonstrated mass cooking demonstration and school health programme. In school health programme they do registration, Anthropometric measurement, physical examination, eye examination are done and distributing the medications. They have found common problems like scabies, dental caries and anemia. For wounds, wound dressing is done with medications like T.AlbendaZole, TMVT, T.B. Complex, IFA, T.Paracetamol.

Internal assessment

Internal assessment marks for theory documented based on the student’s performance in unit test, sessional revision test, model exam 40% assignments 10%, record and class teaching 10%, attendance 20%, discipline and conduct 20%. Practical assessment is done for 50% in practical exam 10%, viva 5%, record completion 10%. Clinical evaluation 2%, spotters 8%, case study 5%, assignment 10%, attendance.

Tutorial classes

Based on the overall performance, slow learner students are identified and tutorial classes & counseling session is arranged for them. Participation in other activities is based on the individual needs.

Mentor Mentee Programme

The department of Community Health Nursing conducts a mentor mentee programme periodically and monitors the mentors and provides guidance to improve the academic performances. Slow learners are identified and additional guidance is given. Advanced learners are also identified and are motivated to participate in inter-collegiate quiz programme, essay competition, poster presentation and to present papers in scientific forums and journal club.
