LAMPLIGHTING CEREMONY FOR XVI BATCH OF KGNC

The tenth of January 2019 was a red letter day in the annals of Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, a constituent College of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Puducherry. The day witnessed the Lamp Lighting Ceremony of the 16th batch of B.Sc (Nursing) students. The solemn ceremony began with the customary, yet austere procession – the dignitaries in lead, followed by the freshers.

Prof. Sumathy, Vice Principal, KGNC delivered the welcome address. Earlier, the programme began with a soul stirring invocation rendered by the students. A highly motivating introductory address was rendered by Prof.Renuka, Principal, KGNC. The lighting of the lamp with inherent virtues and tenets was enabled by the senior faculty members. Symbolically, the lamp lighting drove home the message that it had illuminated the minds and spirits of the fledgling nursing Professionals.

The Chief Guest of the afternoon was Prof. Subhash Chandra Parija, Vice- Chancellor, SBV. Drawing the immediate attention of the Guests, the teachers and the taught, Prof. Parija highlighted the salient features of the stellar progress and rapid strides that KGNC has made in the realms of nursing education, patient care and ethical practice. Prof. Parija made a sincere plea to encourage the Freshers get into the grooves of quality nursing care. This would go a long way in fostering career advancement, he added. The administration of International Nurses pledge, an important item was facilitated by Prof.  Lalitha,  Director of Nursing Services, MGMCRI.  The ceremony instilled the value of nursing profession and the sacrifice that the nurses have to essentially make in their personal front in order to optimally contribute their mite to the noble profession.   Prof. Annie Annal, a senior faculty of KGNC proposed a formal vote of thanks.

Lamp-lighting is a glorious tradition followed globally by all Nursing graduates to remind each one of them about the noble traditions of this profession and fondly recollects the monumental and selfless efforts of the lady with the lamp, Florence Nightingale.
