Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College is established by the estimable Chairman Mr. M. Rajagopalan, in the year 2003 which was affiliated with Pondicherry University.  Department of Nursing Foundation was developed in the year 2003 with the team of efficient faculty members. Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University Is a deemed university emerged into the educational service from 2009 and our institution gaily works under this university. KGNC offers B.Sc (N), P.B.B.Sc (N) courses. As ilk, a mother helps the crawling child to walk, Nursing foundation has taken a great parade with the eminent faculty In all cadres function from the beginning deliberately, dedicatedly  with the team spirit till date aiming to excel multidimensional 8 strive to bring our Institution as best out of all nursing colleges in 8 around the nation. Primary function of the department
The primary function of the department is to provide Nursing Education and Nursing Practice In comprehensive health care of patients in all the programmes - B.Sc (N), P.B.b.Sc (N).

Nursing Education

  • Plan, implement and evaluate the programme.
  • Impart quality education to all the students n the department.
  • Apply innovative teaching strategies that enhances learning outcome of the students,
  • Ensure excellent academic performance in theory and practical examination
  • Facilitate self development in participating through Journal Club and Integrated Teaching Programme.
  • Conduct periodical evaluation of the student.

Nursing Practice:

  • Prepare the students to develop desirable attitude and skill in providing comprehensive health care of children.
  • Conduct clinical demonstration, bed side clinic, Viva voce, spot test, health education and drug presentation.
  • Evaluate the clinical performance and record book.
  • Provide hands on training to the students.
  • Provide intensive training in the areas of medical ward, surgical ward, orthopedic ward, ENT ward, Post OP ward and OPD.


  • Department of Nursing Foundation believes that it prepare each student to become a well qualified person in the art and science of nursing and meet prescribed standards of education and clinical competency related to Nursing Foundation.
  • Department of Nursing Foundation Nursing believes that we prepare students to encompass autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, Communities, sick or well in all settings in and around the Nation.
  • We train the students to independently perform activities in promotion of health, prevention of illness, care of IN, and key roles like ado nursing clinician, educator, researcher and so on En the health care delivery system.
  • Department of FON believes that we coach and train the students to attain the heights of achievements in their academics and performance excellence in the clinical setting.
  • Department of EON believes that It focuses on the recent and emerging trends in Nursing Foundation nursing and would like to incorporate them in teaching and training the students.
  • Department of FON believes that we prepare / bud the students En such a way to acquire knowledge and develop proficiency comprehensive nursing skill based upon scientific principles and concepts involved in Nursing Foundation and providing basic & specialized care for patients with initially ills in clinical setting.

Department of Nursing Foundation enables the students to gain adequate knowledge regarding basic specialized procedures relevant to Nursing Foundation. nursing and develop desirable attitude and skill In applying the recent trends of nursing process with appropriate scientific principles in care of patients with medical & surgical condition in various clinical settings of National and International level.

Specific Objectives:

  1. Teach the students to apply the concepts of health maintenance promotion, and prevention and cure of diseases, rehabilitation and home care services.
  2. Impart the knowledge of the students regarding concepts, diseases, its management, procedures Involved in Nursing Foundation.
  3. Train the students to perform comprehensive nursing care skillfully and appreciate the client as holistic individual.
  4. Train and prepare the students to become a dynamic enthusiastic, full-pledged ideal nurse as an active health care provider in the health care delivery system at National & International level.
  5. Develop the sense of responsibility and accountability of the students.
  6. Prepare & train the students to adopt and achieve the role of nurse practitioner, nurse educator, nurse researcher, nurse manager, etc at National & global level.
  7. Prepare the students to adopt extended & expanded role of nurse, as a active member of health care team nationally & globally.
  8. Motivate the students to conduct & participate in various programmes at institutional, National & International level.
  9. Mould the personality & all round development of the students to lead independent style of living.
  10. Build the positive attitude, confidence, assertiveness, leadership quality to enhance professional excellence.
  11. Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
  12. Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.
  13. Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups.
  14. Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
  15. Utilize the latest trends and technology In providing health care.
  16. Provide promotive, preventive arid restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.
  17. Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.
  18. Communicate effectively with Individuals and groups and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
  19. Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical / community health settings.
  20. Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.
  21. Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical/community health settings.
  22. Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.
  23. Demonstrate awareness, interest and contribute towards advancement of self and of the profession.
