Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College taken a great initiation in innovative nursing care. Although health care services are accessible to all, people living in remote areas find it difficult to reach the health centres. Integrated Model of Mobile Health Care Service through Two Wheeler offer health care services to remote rural public among Non ambulatory people and Special group children who are in need of Preventive, Promotive, Curative, Palliative and Rehabilitative care.
Scientific Academic Program (SAF)
The SAF was inaugurated on 25 th January 2008 with the aim to provide an appropriate platform for nursing fraternity and students to present papers on various contemporary topics and pave the way for regular exchange of scientific updates. This is an important milestone in the annals of KGNC..
Multi –Disciplinary Teaching /Learning Programme
Multi-Disciplinary Teaching/Learning Programme or Integrated Teaching and practice. This well-accepted and effective educational strategy for their problems. This will enhance quality of education which includes specialties of nursing which is scheduled once in three months in rotation for 
Mind Mapping Learning Strategy
Mind mapping learning strategy was developed with the objective of enhancing the learning skills of all students and especially students who need additional curricular support and as an innovative method of teaching learning process. Our institute had designed this mind mapping learning model from July 2016 and being provided to our nursing students.
BLS Training
BLS Training was initiated with the objective to provide optimal training to the outgoing students using the state-of-the-art simulation lab of SBV certified by the American Heart Association which is a must know component of every student who will be transforming to a clinical nurse. KGNC takes keen interest in training all the students passing out from KGNC who carry the prestigious certificate of AHA. 

Mentor- Mentee
Mentor mentee works with the objective to identify students’ areas of strength and weakness and to provide guidance and support by creating an atmosphere of openness where meaningful communication and trust can exist. One faculty will be allotted 10 students from all 4 batches. The mentees are instructed to meet their mentor on last Friday of every month to share the difficulties faced by them both personally and professionally.
Breast Feeding Counseling Unit
The Department of Child Health Nursing provides educative and counselling services on regular basis on every Thursdays for antenatal and postnatal mothers in post natal wards of MGMCRI, focusing on the importance of breast feeding, techniques of breast feeding, exclusive breast feeding for the first 6 months and to continue breast feeding along with weaning and the common problems faced by the mothers during feeding.
Immunization Counseling Unit
The Department of Child Health Nursing provides educative and counselling services on regular basis on every Wednesdays at Paediatric Outpatient Department, MGMCRI, focusing on the National Immunization schedule, the importance of vaccination and care of child before and after vaccination.
Adolescent Counseling Unit
Adolescent counselling Unit meets the needs of the adolescents and their demands whenever needed. This unit provides adequate counselling to the students in KGNC, adolescents residing at Baby Sarah’s Home, Ariyankuppam and at schools in Puducherry towards emotional stabilization, conflict resolution, career guidance, personal hygiene, menstrual hygiene, self-protective measures, and so on. Teen Counseling is an ‘adolescent friendly’ service and as such, our aim is to enable young people and their caretakers deal with difficulties, within the context of the group.
Reproductive Health Unit
Focusing on all issues, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological nursing has taken its first step to provide adequate health care which will satisfy and ensure the multi-dimensional expectation of the consumers of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Puducherry by establishing a “Reproductive Health Unit” for the betterment of all women in the society. The Reproductive Health Unit focuses on the constellation of methods, techniques and services that contribute to reproductive health and well-being of women and adolescent girls through prevention and management of reproductive health problems. The growing menace of teenage pregnancy, infertility, cervical cancer and anaemia-related complications are endangering the life of female population and young adolescent girls. These current issues could be well handled and prevented by the health care professionals through screening services, awareness programmes, distribution of informational pamphlets, CDs and self-instructional modules. Right to health information is every patient’s demand. The demand and expectation of every mother attending the Obstetrics and Gynecology outpatient department are well taken care. The present day adolescent girls do have poor life style practices which would lead to infertility in future. This has to be corrected or modified when they are in teens.
Remedial Classes for SNACS (Students Needing Additional Curricular Support)
Remedial classes for Students Needing Additional Curriculum Support (SNACS) are being conducted for students to overcome their learning difficulties through mind mapping to improve the learning skill of the students and thereby the academic performance is improved. Special coaching classes after college hours with students and parents cooperation are being conducted.
Training of Anganwadi Workers
As an innovative practice, the Department of Community Health Nursing, KGNC has started training and empowering Anganwadi workers to assess the health status of people and educate them towards health promotion, referrals, etc. Meeting the problems like over population, malnutrition, poverty, poor maternal and child health, etc. need high number of medical and health professionals. As there is shortage of skilled professionals, Anganwadi system has been used as a tool to meet the goal of enhanced health facilities made available, affordable and accessible to the local population. Thus, KGNC has taken the mission in training and empowering the Anganwadi workers at their workplace regarding anthropometric measurements for under five, antenatal, postnatal related health education, health awareness on nutritional supplements for children, referrals, etc.
Telephonic Nursing
Telephonic nursing is the latest and recent trend in health care delivery prevalent among developed and developing countries. As an innovative idea, KGNC had started Telephonic Nursing from 2015. Telephonic Nursing refers to the nursing service rendered using telecommunications and information technology where a large physical distance exists between patient and nurse. Telephonic nursing is achieving a large rate of growth, due to several factors like escalated costs of health care, an increase in the number of aging and chronically ill population, and the increase in coverage of health care to distant, rural, small or sparsely populated regions. Among its many benefits, telephonic nursing may help to solve immediate health problems, thereby reducing distance and saving travel time, and to keep patients healthy within their homes.
Quick Response Team
KGNC started to have quick response team, a student-centered programme with civic social responsibility. The main objectives of this quick response team are to rescue the victims from disaster, to promote the early recognition of a patients physiological abnormalities during disaster, to initiate or assist with interventions to stabilize the patients and to reduce the risk of spread of communicable disease after disaster. Our institution team is always ready to meet any emergency. The team members are ready at any time to meet the emergency and resources are kept ready prior to the disaster.


Leadership Development Cell of KGNC is for preparing and empowering the students and faculty members to have a vision to improve their skills, abilities and confidence in order to perform the leadership roles with the dynamism at college  , at each level of health care system and at any settings in India and across the globe. The aim of this cell is to spur the growth of leadership skill, drive innovation, unleash the full penitential of the students and to mentor the future generation by influencing positively.
